Previously the problem has gone away in a day or so. This time it seems permanent and the driver's door does not lock at all from the key fob, although all others do. The lock button on the centre console has also ceased working, although all the other electrics on the driver's door (switches, mirrors, etc) still work normally.

My guess is that if you replace the windows motor, the problem will be solved. Press the lock/unlock buttons on the driver armrest.
Pull the tab aside and the key blade will slide out. You'll find a slot on the bottom of the cover the same width as the key blade. Pull the door handle and hold it in the open position, then insert the key blade and use it to pull the cover outwards and off. Release the door handle, then turn the key anti-clockwise to unlock the door.
The problem is that you can only unlock the doors using the drivers door, you cannot lock them. When you turn the key to unlock in the driver's door it is smooth and works fine, the key also springs back to the vertical position. Posted 18 July, 2006. Its fairly easy to change. You need to take the grommet out of the end of the door thats inline with the lock. Inside is a T20 tox screw. Carefull unwind this until the screw stops. Now the lock and the back part of the handle will pull out.

Try operating the locks while giving the outside of the door a thump with your fist where the lock is located. That might get the door open. If not, you can pull the door trim off, start at a corner at the bottom, run along the bottom and up the sides.
Hi there all. I have the same problem as Aubrey. The passenger door on the driver's side won't lock or unlock at the moment. It's happened before and fixed itself for months - but has recently started to do this again. I wonder if it's the wet weather sometimes! Had the same problem with my rear doors. What happens when you unlock using the key? Does the central locking still work? Try 'gently' giving the door a thump near the lock area. If this works, you may just need to lubricate the lock / mechanism but it could also be the mechanism's on the way out. It may be possible to get the door card off.
Unlock the driver's door with the remote then unlock the passenger's door with the button on the door. The remote will now unlock the driver's door with one push of the unlock button and the rest of the doors with 2 pushes of the unlock button. It will lock all doors and engage the alarm with a single push of the lock button.
